Roma are interested in Matt Doherty ahead of the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur giving his departure the green light, according to a report from AS Roma Live.
Doherty has endured a nightmare spell since arriving from Wolves in 2020, and he is yet to start a single Premier League game this season.

Unsurprisingly, recent reports have suggested that Tottenham are prepared to move the Republic of Ireland international on next month.
And it appears that an escape route could be offered by one of his former managers. AS Roma Live reports that Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Doherty to the Italian capital.

The report notes that the wing-back is represented by Jorge Mendes.
It is suggested that Spurs have given a move the green light, with terms to now be discussed. AS Roma Live reports that Tottenham would prefer a permanent sale, but would be open to a loan that leaves the door open for a summer deal.
The asking price could be up to £10.2 million (€12 million).
Tottenham would be delighted to receive eight-figure fee for Matt Doherty amid Roma interest
Unfortunately, Doherty’s time in North London has not worked out for anyone, and he is now well down the pecking order.
He cost the club £14.7 million. So to be receiving anything like what they spent would be a major win.
An initial loan deal may not be ideal. But if it leads to a permanent exit in the summer, Tottenham will have few complaints.
Doherty will relish the chance to get away. He labelled Mourinho ‘one of the best ever‘ following his departure last season.
And a reunion would surely appeal to the defender.
