Tottenham Hotspur defender Matt Doherty could leave in January if Spurs can find a new club for him, according to The Athletic‘s Jack Pitt-Brooke.
The 29-year-old joined Tottenham in August 2020 for a reported £15million on Jose Mourinho’s watch.
“I hate to play against him, so I’m so, so happy that I don’t play against him again,” said the former Spurs manager at the time. “I’m so happy that we have him.

“Incredible career at Wolves… League One, Championship, Premier League and Europa League. He did everything for them, so job done there.”
However, Doherty has failed to make much of an impact at Spurs.
To date, the Republic of Ireland international has made just 37 competitive appearances for Tottenham.
This season, Doherty has clocked up just eight appearances, with a mere 467 minutes of action under his belt.
Emerson Royal is currently Antonio Conte’s first-choice right wing-back, while Japhet Tanganga has also featured there.
Doherty featured in the 2-1 defeat to Mura in the Conference League but struggled and came off before the hour.
“Could well be gone next month”
It looks as though the £65,000-a-week man doesn’t feature in Conte’s plans.

And Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Tottenham look set to offload him in January.
“Spurs would be interested in moving on Dele Alli and possibly Matt Doherty, and there are others they would listen to offers for,” he wrote.
Pitt-Brooke then elaborated about a potential new attacking right wing-back at Spurs.
He said: “We all know that in Conte’s style of play, the attacking width has to come from the wing-backs and that means someone who can stay wide, attack the byline and get good crosses into the box.
“Royal doesn’t do that, neither does Japhet Tanganga.
“And Doherty could well be gone next month if they can find a new club for him.”
