Juventus were growing optimistic that they were on their way to agreeing a deal for Memphis Depay, until Tottenham director Fabio Paratici made an enquiry late on Tuesday, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Depay looks set to be one player who leaves Barcelona before the end of the window. The Dutchman does not appear to have a space in Xavi’s plans following the arrivals of the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Tottenham have shown interest in offering him a Premier League return. In fact, reports have suggested that Spurs have made an offer for the 28-year-old.
However, it is Juve who seem to lead the race. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Old Lady were optimistic about striking a deal for Depay.

But then, Paratici made a move. According to the report, the Italian made an enquiry late on Tuesday. Depay is keen to move to Turin. But the prospect of returning to the Premier League has now distracted him.
It is suggested that Tottenham’s fresh interest has gone no further at this stage. Nicolo Zaniolo remains the priority for Spurs.
Paratici made enquiry for Memphis Depay on Tuesday
Tottenham are making a wise move keeping their options open with Depay. Reports have even claimed that he could leave Barca on a free transfer this month.
Obviously, the forward would not come cheap even on a free transfer. It seems to be more common for players to demand considerable signing-on fees when they move for nothing.
But he would still be considerably cheaper than Zaniolo, you would imagine. And he is someone with ‘fantastic‘ quality at his best.
It seems that Juve are still on pole position to land Depay. But it is interesting that Paratici is still keeping those lines of communication open.
