Southampton intend to reject any approaches for James Ward-Prowse, with The Times reporting that he is an Aston Villa target in the transfer window.
It was claimed over the weekend that the Villans want Ward-Prowse. As noted by The Times, it comes with the club on the verge of landing Emi Buendia.

Ward-Prowse subsequently followed that by producing a superb display for England. The midfielder has put himself right in the mix for a late reprieve from Gareth Southgate.
And his display probably did not escape the attention of Villa.
Unfortunately for Dean Smith’s men, it appears that they are going to have to produce something special to lure him away from the south coast.

According to The Times, Southampton are ready to reject Villa’s approach for Ward-Prowse.
The report notes that the 26-year-old has four years left on his contract. So it would appear that the Saints find themselves in a very strong position.
Aston Villa may need Ward-Prowse to ask Southampton to let him go
Judging by the report, Villa are going to need to offer a lot of money to get Southampton around the negotiating table.
But perhaps it would also be fair to say that the Villans may need Ward-Prowse to tell the Saints that he wants a move.
If Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are going to bounce back next season, keeping players such as the midfielder is imperative.
From the outside, it may not be out of the question for Ward-Prowse to suggest that he would be open to moving.
Villa are already showing serious ambition in the market. Meanwhile, Southampton are approaching a pivotal window.
And if they lose key men like Danny Ings, surely Ward-Prowse will want assurances over their direction.
If he does not like what he hears, he may be hoping to see Villa make their move.
