Arsenal fans want club to sign James Ward Prowse after England display
Arsenal fans watched on as England won 1-0 over Romania in their last match before Euro 2020 and then called for the Gunners to sign James Ward-Prowse.
The Southampton midfielder is still sweating on his place at Euro 2020. He hasn’t made the 26-man squad and will only get a place if he’s picked as a replacement.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn and one spot is up for grabs once more. He did his chances of getting the nod no harm this evening – with Arsenal fans impressed.
Signing him might not be overly ambitious either. The Guardian has claimed today that Aston Villa are readying a bid for the Saints star.
They are to open the bidding at £30 million and would be willing to pay up to £40 million for the 26-year-old.
Ward-Prowse has been in stunning form for Southampton during 2020/21. He has scored nine goals and claimed seven assists, with five goals coming from free-kicks.
The midfielder is a product of the Saints youth academy. He has played over 250 games for the club is Ralph Hasenhuttl’s captain.
Arsenal won’t be in Europe next season and as a result, someone like Ward-Prowse would represent a quality signing.
There will surely come a time when he leaves Southampton and why not this summer.
The Saints really struggled during 2020/21 and they look in danger of losing some of their star players.
That could be music to the ears of Arsenal, with their supporters keen to see Ward-Prowse in North London.
Ward-Prowse to Arsenal makes sense
It has to be said that the Southampton midfielder would be a quality addition to the Arsenal ranks.
He is energetic, has a good passing radar and is a breath of fresh air when it comes to taking set pieces.
Arsenal are crying out for an injection of energy in their midfield. Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are easily replaced, whilst Dani Ceballos will head back to Real Madrid.
As a result, they will target a midfielder and Ward-Prowse signing for the Gunners does appear to make some sense.
The player earns £75,000-a-week at St Mary’s Stadium and that is affordable for Arsenal.
A transfer fee of £40 million might sound excessive but at 26, he has plenty of years ahead of him.
Playing for a club like Arsenal will surely attract Ward-Prowse and he has the potential to star around better players.
Arsenal supporters want Ward-Prowse
Following today’s England game, supporters have lost their minds over Ward-Prowse, none more so than the Gunners faithful.
Arsenal fans would dearly love to see him strutting his stuff at the Emirates Stadium next season.
They are growing tired of a midfield lacking energy and ball-playing qualities and think Ward-Prowse could help.
Whether Southampton would do business is another thing. The player is happy at the club and has always played for the Saints.
That might not always be the case though and he may fancy a move at some point during his career.
Following today’s game, Arsenal fans raved about Ward-Prowse and here’s what they had to say about the maestro.
