Report: Sociedad reply to Jose suggestions they stopped him from joining Tottenham
Real Sociedad have replied to Willian Jose, who suggested they stopped the striker from joining Tottenham Hotspur.
The centre-forward claimed that the La Liga outfit blocked a move to Spurs after the club made promises. Jose said that Roberto Olabe promised him if an offer from a ‘big team came to play in the Champions League’, Sociedad would let him go.
However, the Lilywhites aren’t the only side to have made an offer for the 29-year-old. He also claims to have been approached by Barcelona and Manchester United.
The Brazilian ended up joining Wolves in the recent January transfer window. However, it didn’t work out as it should’ve with the figure scoring just once across all competitions.
Mundo Deportivo claim there is no chance Wolves exercise their option to sign the ace for £18m.
Meanwhile, they also say that there was only ever one offer, the one from the north London giants. The side offered €10m (£8.6m) for him, however, it was in February, back in 2020.
TBR View: Jose joining Tottenham would’ve made no difference to the club
Given his performances for then-Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, you feel as though Jose joining Tottenham would’ve made no difference.
Mourinho urgently searched for a back-up option to Harry Kane last season after the club became reliant on their talisman.
32 goals and 18 assists across all competitions paints a picture about how talismanic the Englishman is for the outfit.
But, one goal during his time with Wolves shows that Jose wouldn’t have made much of an impact in north London.
