Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on bolstering their striker options this month, with The Athletic reporting that Willian Jose is set to join the club on loan.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are amongst the lowest scorers in the Premier League this term. They have found the back of the net 21 times in 19 games.
They have been without Raul Jimenez for several weeks. And, despite recalling Patrick Cutrone from his loan spell at Fiorentina, Wolves have decided to make a signing in this window.
According to The Athletic, Willian Jose is on his way on loan. It is not suggested whether Wolves will have any option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
But the report does make an interesting claim about Cutrone. It is suggested that his future remains unclear as things stand.
Willian Jose has scored just three goals in La Liga this season. But he did reach double figures in the previous four campaigns, scoring 15 in the 2017/18 season.
As a loan signing, it is difficult to have too many complaints with Willian Jose coming in. He has boasted a good record throughout his career.
And at 29, he could be somewhere around his peak. Of course, he is the same age as Jimenez, who has enjoyed his best spell since arriving in England.
Jimenez’s absence has certainly hurt Wolves. But Willian Jose coming in looks, on paper, to have the potential to be a really good piece of business.
