Report shares three things Milner has called Liverpool star out over
A report from The Times has shared the three things James Milner has called Curtis Jones out over in training as he tries to help the Liverpool prospect realise his potential.
What’s the story?
Jones is the name on many Liverpool fans’ lips right now after a stunning performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old provided two assists and had a key role in another as Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Porto 5-1 in Portugal.
It was a performance that received plaudits from Jordan Henderson. But perhaps another member of the Reds’ squad may not be so open in praising Jones.
The Times reports that Milner will often hit Jones with a rocket on the training ground as he attempts to make sure that the academy graduate never gets complacent.
And the report has shared the three things Milner has taken exception to. He reportedly called him out over using his left foot, his heading and his physicality.
Milner will certainly appreciate Jones’ second assist in Liverpool win
As The Times notes, Milner clearly would not be pushing Jones if he did not see something special in the youngster.
And Milner may have allowed himself to have a little smile when he saw Jones’ second assist in Estadio do Dragao.
The midfielder played the ball forward for Roberto Firmino with that left foot.
Firmino then spotted the goalkeeper off his line and managed to keep his composure despite the bizarre sight of Diogo Costa seemingly threatening to emulate Alisson against West Brom and head to the other end of the pitch.
Jones appears to have taken his game to another level. He was superb at the weekend.
But for the time-being, Milner may perhaps be one player who might just refuse to admit that.
