Jordan Henderson claims Liverpool star is now showing how good he is
Jordan Henderson has told BT Sport (broadcast on 28/9; 22:03) that Curtis Jones has all the attributes to be a top player, insisting that the Liverpool starlet has shown how good he is in recent weeks.
What’s the story?
The Reds have perhaps put one foot in the knockout stages of the Champions League after Tuesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Porto 5-1. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both scored twice, while Sadio Mane also got on the scoresheet.
Liverpool were impressive all over the pitch. But perhaps the best performance came from the 20-year-old.
He provided two of the assists, while he also had a key hand in Salah’s opener, driving into the box and unleashing the shot that ultimately fell into the Egyptian’s path.
Few Liverpool fans needed convincing about how good Jones is anyway. But it does appear that he has stepped his performances up recently.
And Henderson suggested that he felt that the academy graduate was absolutely superb in Portugal.
“Curtis has been fantastic,” he told BT Sport. “I know on paper he’s so young, but I feel as though he’s been around the first-team for a few years now. I feel as though he’s settled in really well.
“He’s matured really well and now you’re starting to see what a good player he is over the last few weeks. He’s had to be a little bit patient at the beginning of the season but he’s come in and he’s done fantastically well. You can see he’s got all the attributes to be a top player.”
Jones making himself undroppable for Liverpool
As Henderson notes, Jones had not had the easiest start to the season. He did not feature in any of Liverpool’s first four Premier League games.
But he was outstanding in the draw with Brentford at the weekend. And he has now followed that up with a stunning display in the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp will surely struggle to justify leaving him out of the team anytime soon.
And Henderson is clearly confident that Jones will become one of the first names on the team sheet in the not-so-distant future.
