Everton have received a boost in their push to sign Sean Longstaff with the Daily Mail reporting that Newcastle United are understood to be willing to listen to offers for the midfielder.

Longstaff has had a challenging time on Tyneside. He has struggled to really kick on after making a brilliant start to life in the first-team.

Nevertheless, he is attracting interest in this window. According to a recent report from The Athletic, Everton have held initial talks about a move.

It was suggested that he has remained in contact with former boss Rafa Benitez. And it seems that an opportunity to move to Goodison Park could open up at some stage.

Interestingly, it would appear that Newcastle are not planning to shut the door on a potential move.

According to the Daily Mail, they will listen to offers for Longstaff. Steve Bruce wants Hamza Choudhury, and thus is looking to free up space in the squad.

It will be interesting to see if the reports prompt Everton to step up their interest.

Opportunity for Everton to secure another bargain as Newcastle consider Longstaff sale?

Everton have been incredibly shrewd in this window so far. They have limited their spending, but still managed to bring in a number of new signings.

Newcastle are surely still likely to want a big fee for Longstaff. But his valuation has certainly dropped.

The Telegraph reported in 2019 that he was valued at £50 million amid interest from Manchester United.

Everton would not have to pay that amount. And obviously, they would surely back away should Newcastle demand anything like that figure.

But it does perhaps highlight what a signing he could be if Benitez could get his career back on track.
