Newcastle United will now make a second bid for Dan Burn after seeing an £8 million offer for the Brighton defender rejected, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Magpies are pressing ahead with their plans to bolster their squad before the end of the January transfer window. And it was suggested this week that one of the defenders they had their eye on was the Seagulls’ Adam Webster.

However, he is not the only member of Graham Potter’s squad that Newcastle want. According to the Daily Mail, they have already seen an £8 million bid for Burn turned down.

Eddie Howe’s men are yet to give up hope of landing the 29-year-old before the deadline passes. The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle will return with a second bid.

Brighton will surely dig heels in unless Newcastle improve Burn bid significantly

Brighton will surely be reluctant to let Burn go. Potter has previously labelled the defender ‘incredible‘ after one Premier League display for the club.

He was also lauded by Potter after another game in December for continuing despite his shoulder popping out inside eight minutes. Clearly, he is a player who sets the standard for effort and application at the Amex Stadium. Potter has also spoken about his ‘top attitude’.

But the former Fulham man may be in two minds about his future. He has previously spoken of being a boyhood Newcastle fan, having been born in Blyth. And he said he dreamt of playing for the club.

His contract does expire at the end of next season. But Brighton are surely unlikely to take that into consideration when it comes to potentially letting him go in this window.

Time is running out to find a replacement. So unless Burn makes it clear that he wishes to leave, the Seagulls will surely choose to dig their heels in.

And with that, Newcastle may perhaps have to be prepared to improve their offer significantly if they hope to make Burn one of their latest signings in this window.
