Eddie Howe is convinced that Callum Wilson still has a role to play in Newcastle United’s push to remain in the Premier League, despite the striker being an injury doubt for the rest of the season, according to a report from The Athletic.
Wilson has not featured for the Magpies since the turn of the year due to a calf injury. Howe confirmed on Monday that he is expected to be out until the final weeks of the season.

Of course, with that, there is a chance that the 29-year-old could play no further part this term. Nevertheless, the Newcastle boss has resisted the temptation to leave Wilson out of their 25-man squad.
Unlike Isaac Hayden, Wilson is available to Newcastle once fit. And The Athletic reports that Howe is convinced that the forward can still make an impact – even if he is only back for a handful of games.

Newcastle will certainly have brilliant opportunity should Wilson return while they have chance to stay up
Newcastle are going to be so intriguing to watch in the months to come. A lot is riding on how they fare over the rest of the season. It would, of course, be a huge setback to get relegated.
They improved their defence considerably in January. And they now have the foundations of a very decent team, particularly when it comes to their strongest XI.
With Wilson available, they would surely have no problem staying up. He has previously been described as an ‘outstanding‘ player.
Without him, it is a little more difficult to know where the goals they need are coming from.
But should they still have a chance to stay up by the time he returns, Newcastle will back themselves to get out of trouble.
This relegation race is currently set up for a couple of goals to prove absolutely vital in the final stages of the campaign.
