Report: Salernitana now in talks with Spurs over Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is wanted by Salernitana in the January transfer window, and talks are already underway, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Sarr, quite surprisingly, is still awaiting the chance to make his competitive debut for Spurs. The 20-year-old arrived during the 2021 summer window before spending the entirety of last season back on loan with Metz.

He has been in and around Antonio Conte’s plans this season. However, he has been an unused substitute six times in the Premier League so far. And it appears that there is now a chance that he could move on before he gets the chance to make that competitive bow for Tottenham.

Salernitana make contact over Sarr

According to a report from Calciomercato, Salernitana want Sarr in January. And talks are already underway over a potential deal for the youngster.

It is noted that the move is complicated. So perhaps it should not be a huge surprise if he remains at Tottenham beyond January. But you would imagine that he would be keen to secure a chance to play more regularly.

A loan move may be a good option for Spurs. Antonio Conte tends to rely on a single group of players. And, unfortunately, it is very difficult for others to break into those plans. Bryan Gil, Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp have all struggled for game-time this season.

Sarr’s situation therefore, is unlikely to change without impressing elsewhere. And that is why he may be interested in moving away during the upcoming window.

It also makes sense for Tottenham. Conte has said that he is a big fan of the midfielder. But it is not doing anyone any favours to have Sarr go long periods without playing. So they may well be receptive to the idea of letting him move in some capacity in January.
