'I like him a lot': Antonio Conte says he's a massive fan of 20-year-old Tottenham youngster after Nice friendly

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte told the club’s official website that he’s a massive fan of youngster Pape Matar Sarr after the friendly against Nice last night. 

Spurs continued their preparations for the return of the Premier League in north London last night and drew 1-1 with the Ligue 1 outfit. 

Matt Doherty got amongst the goals once again in the first-half as he continued his impressive scoring run during the mid-season break. But Nice found an equaliser during the second period as Spurs failed to deal with a corner. 

Some first-team regulars managed to get some minutes under their belt, with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg returning to action after his involvement in the World Cup. 

Emerson Royal got the nod at right wing-back, while Dejan Kulusevski continued to work his way back to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. 

Conte also gave some youngsters a run out from the bench and the Italian opted to replace Hojbjerg with Sarr at half-time.

The 20-year-old put in an impressive display from the middle of the park after featuring at the World Cup for Senegal. And the Spurs boss has admitted that he’s an admirer of the youngster and praised him for his display in north London last night. 

Conte on Sarr 

Conte spoke to Spurs Play after his side were held to a draw against the French outfit and the Tottenham boss was upbeat about the performance. 

The Italian highlighted Sarr’s display after the youngster got a valuable 45 minutes under his belt. 

“It was a good game. Also for Pape Sarr, I like him a lot and the way he go on to the pitch,” Conte said.

Sarr is yet to make his competitive debut for Tottenham after joining from FC Metz last summer. 

The midfielder spent last season on loan with his former side and has impressed in Ligue 1. 

The Senegal international has been named amongst the substitutes under Conte quite frequently this season and he will be hoping to get his opportunity in the first-team soon. 

With Rodrigo Bentancur looking set to miss Spurs’ clash with Brentford on Boxing Day, the youngster could find himself back amongst the substitutes next Monday.
