Arsenal have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Tammy Abraham with Calciomercato reporting that Roma no longer consider the striker to be indispensable.

Abraham’s time in the Italian capital has largely been successful. He scored 17 goals in Serie A last season, with a total of 27 coming in all competitions.

This season has been much more frustrating for the 25-year-old, who cost nearly £35 million. He has only found the back of the net three times in the top-flight. Meanwhile, he has only scored once in five Europa League games.

Nevertheless, there is interest from a number of Premier League clubs. A report from Calciomercato suggested that Tottenham want the England international.

More recently, Tuttomercatoweb suggested that Arsenal remain admirers of the forward.

And it seems that a familiar face has now joined the Gunners in the race.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Aston Villa are in the running to sign Abraham. He previously spent a season on loan at Villa Park, helping the club secure promotion out of the Championship.

And the good news for the clubs keen to sign Abraham is that Roma have changed their stance on his situation. Calciomercato reports that the Giallorossi no longer consider Abraham indispensable and he is now available.

Abraham has previously had success in the Premier League. His one season as a mainstay of the Chelsea side saw him score 15 goals in the top-flight.

So that will encourage the raft of sides keen on his signature.

It will be interesting to see whether a move to Arsenal or Villa appeals more. The Gunners sit top of the table. But Mikel Arteta already has Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in his ranks.

Villa have already shown some promising signs under Emery. And there is an opportunity for a prolific striker to stamp their authority on a place in the side.

Abraham has been described as an ‘unbelievable‘ talent. So he may want some assurances before he decides his next move.
