According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both want to sign Tammy Abraham in 2023.

The Englishman left Chelsea and joined AS Roma last year and he has been a revelation in Italy. He’s one of the best strikers in the Serie A, and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he returns to a big club in the Premier League.

Tottenham want to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham

Spurs have Harry Kane up top and as long as the Englishman is a Tottenham player, he will remain their first-choice striker.

However, one of Tottenham’s biggest issues over the years has been their inability to bring in a top-quality backup for Kane. That has forced managers to use the Englishman in almost every single game, which is not ideal at all.

Summer signing Richarlison can play up front, as can Son Heung-min, but neither player is a natural number nine like Kane. That’s the reason why Spurs should sign a proper striker in one of the next two transfer windows, and Abraham would be perfect.

The Englishman is a phenomenal forward. He’s good with his back to goal, is an excellent finisher and he can run in behind as well. He was tremendous for Roma last season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions – the same as Kane and three more Son, who won the Premier League Golden Boot.

Abraham’s current contract at Roma expires in the summer of 2026.

Chelsea have a buy-back clause

When Chelsea sold Abraham to Roma, much to the disgruntlement of some Blues fans, they decided to include a clause in the deal that would allow them to re-sign the striker for a pre-fixed fee.

That clause only kicks in next summer, and the fee that has already been agreed is an eye-watering €80 million (£70m) (Metro).

The Blues are definitely in need of a new striker, and Todd Boehly has already shown that he’s ready to splash the big bucks to sign talented players. Abraham definitely checks that box.

If Manchester United and Tottenham really want to sign the English striker, their best chance will be in January – right after the World Cup. However, they will have to spend a lot of money to get this deal over the line.
