Report: Roma may offer Cengiz Under to Arsenal to land Granit Xhaka
Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Cengiz Under from Roma as part of the deal to take Granit Xhaka to Italy, according to reports.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who claim Under could now be used as a makeweight in any deal, after Arsenal rejected Roma’s initial bids.
Under has been with Leicester City this season but has failed to really spark, despite the Foxes’ successes. As covered by TBR previously, Leicester will not be activating a £20m release clause in his loan deal.
However, the Turkish international – he has 26 caps and 7 goals for his country – could be handed a lifeline in the Premier League.
Roma want to offer Under to Arsenal as a potential sweetener to get the Xhaka deal over the line. Coincidentally, it comes just a week or so after The Mirror claimed Mikel Arteta may move for Under anyway.
The tricky winger, who is still just 23, could well provide Arsenal with an added attacking option. The Gunners have lost Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos already this summer. Further, it remains to be seen if key attackers such as Lacazette and Aubameyang will stay put.
Arsenal and Edu, then, might well be tempted into the cash plus Under option for Xhaka. After all, it could kill two birds with one stone.

Being honest, if Under had done that well, then Leicester would be signing him, wouldn’t they? That in itself should be a bit of a red flag for Arsenal.
It’s clear Roma want him gone as well, which is another red flag. Of course, certain players can flourish elsewhere and Under could do so under Arteta.
But you get the impression this signing would fall a bit flat. Ultimately, the Gunners should be looking at better players to improve the ranks.
