Report: Arsenal eye move for Roma forward Cengiz Under

Roma forward Cengiz Under has emerged as a potential summer target for Arsenal, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, via the Mirror.

The 23-year-old spent 2020/21 on loan at Leicester City but didn’t enjoy a happy spell at the King Power Stadium.

He scored twice and claimed three assists from 19 appearances, starting just once in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers.

Leicester won’t activate the £20 million clause which was included as part of this loan in the East Midlands.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Likewise, he’s unlikely to be able to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans back at in the Italian capital.

Despite a poor campaign, interest appears rife. AC Milan and Dortmund are also quoted with an desire to sign the player.

Arsenal won’t have European football on their agenda to entice players during the summer transfer window.

Although he was largely disappointing for Leicester, Mikel Arteta clearly feels he has enough about him to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

TBR View: Can Arsenal justify Under risk?

The 23-year-old’s record hasn’t been amazing wherever he has played, although he does have a lot of untapped potential.

He’s scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists in 88 outings for Roma and consistency has been a big problem for him.

There would be some positives to him signing though. He can play in a number of forward positions and does have a lot of talent on his day.

Under earns £83,000-a-week and Arteta does have a decent reputation when it comes to blooding youngsters.

Arsenal certainly shouldn’t be paying over the odds for him but if the boss can get his best form out of him, he could become a good signing.
