Report: Roma eye Arsenal star Lucas Torreira on loan
Roma may make a move for another Arsenal midfielder this summer with Calciomercato. It reporting that Jose Mourinho’s men are now keen on Lucas Torreira.
The Giallorossi have spent much of the summer being linked with Granit Xhaka. In fact, it was reported that he had agreed personal terms with the Serie A side.
However, Xhaka looks set to remain at the Emirates this season. He captained Mikel Arteta’s men on Friday. And reports suggest that he has signed a new contract with the Gunners.
Interestingly, that could prompt Roma to look at one of his teammates.
According to Calciomercato. It, they would be interested in taking Torreira on loan. He is not their top target at this stage.
Roma would like to take Torreira – who earns around £74,000-a-week – without paying a loan fee.
Arsenal will surely welcome almost any bids for Lucas Torreira amid Roma interest
Unfortunately, it does appear that the writing is on the wall for Torreira at Arsenal.
The 25-year-old spent last year out on loan. And in truth, he failed to really prove a point despite being a part of the Atletico Madrid side that won the La Liga title.
Ideally, Arsenal would find a permanent buyer for the Uruguay international.
However, time is running out in this window. So unless Arteta feels that he could yet consider using Torreira, surely he has got to be open to most offers that come in.
A loan which see the wages covered would help. The Gunners still have business to do this summer. So clearing some space on the wage bill would be useful.
And a return to Italy may perhaps help Torreira rediscover his best form and perhaps drive his value up.
So if Roma do come calling, Arsenal will surely have to give an offer some serious thought.
