Report: Roma dream of Douglas Luiz signing; but remain keen on Xhaka

Roma dream of signing Douglas Luiz, but Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Jose Mourinho’s men will turn to Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka if they cannot get the Aston Villa star.

Luiz’s future looks to be somewhat uncertain. Villa have already strengthened their midfield options this summer, by signing Boubacar Kamara.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Luiz is now ready to leave Villa Park for a fresh challenge. And it is Roma who dream of signing him.

The Villans will let him go. However, they want a fee of at least £25.5 million for the Brazil international. It is noted that his contract expires at the end of next season.

Roma hope to negotiate a lower price. But they have other targets in mind should they fail to sign the 24-year-old. And one of those is Xhaka.

Xhaka, once again, looks set to be linked with the Arsenal exit. Of course, last summer, it seemed inevitable that he would leave, with Roma as his likely destination.

Ultimately however, the Swiss stayed. And he probably went on to enjoy his best campaign in an Arsenal shirt.

Reports previously claimed that the chances of the 29-year-old leaving are very slim. But perhaps Roma will chance their arm.

Roma dream of signing Douglas Luiz, with Xhaka also on radar

Xhaka is a real leader in the Arsenal dressing room. Mikel Arteta previously labelled him ‘phenomenal‘. And he actually received a lot of plaudits for his brutally honest interview after their costly defeat to Newcastle this month.

Having said that, this summer may be an ideal time to let him go. His stock has rarely been higher. And with that, Arsenal would potentially be taking a risk snubbing any significant offers.

So they may well have one eye on how Roma get on trying to lure Douglas Luiz away from Villa.
