Report: Rennes set asking price for Tottenham target Martin Terrier

Rennes have set an asking price of at least £34 million for Martin Terrier, according to a report from Calciomercato, amid reports Tottenham have decided to make an offer for the striker.

The 25-year-old has just completed the best campaign of his career. Terrier scored 21 goals in Ligue 1, while he also provided seven assists in all competitions.

He did not get the opportunity to play against Tottenham after the two clubs were drawn together in the Europa Conference League. But it does appear that Spurs have taken note of his form.

Previous reports claimed that Tottenham were eyeing Terrier this summer. In fact, it was suggested that Antonio Conte’s men had already decided to make an offer.

But they will have to be prepared to make Terrier their most expensive striker signing ever. Calciomercato reports that Rennes want to keep him this summer. And thus, they have set an asking price of over £34 million (€40 million).

Rennes set £34m asking price for Martin Terrier

Terrier could prove to be a bargain if his form this year is a sign of what is to come. He is someone Thierry Henry has raved about. And the Premier League legend backed him for a call-up to the France squad.

Much may come down to how much money Tottenham have to spend this summer. The fans will be hoping for some exciting deals in a number of key areas.

If they are going to spend over £30 million on a forward, some may hope for a bigger name. Terrier had never reached double figures for league goals before this season.

He has also thrived on the left of the attack with Rennes. And he may prove to be a smart signing.

But Tottenham spending anything like £34 million on Terrier would certainly feel like a gamble to some supporters.
