Report: Real Madrid monitoring Spurs star Son Heung-min at World Cup

Real Madrid are closely following Son Heung-min during the World Cup, with Defensa Central reporting that they were particularly impressed by the Tottenham Hotspur star’s display against Portugal.

Son played a key role in South Korea emerging out of their group in Qatar. He produced a brilliant assist for the stoppage-time winner against Portugal which sent the country through to the last 16.

Son was clearly emotional at full-time. And it seems that he made a huge impression with his display on that night.

Real Madrid monitoring Son

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been admirers of Son for some time.

But their interest has increased more recently. And the report from Spain claims that Los Blancos are following Son closely while he is away at the World Cup.

In fact, they were extremely impressed by his performance against the Euro 2016 winners.

With that, Defensa Central reports that Real see Son as a potential option as they look to refresh their attacking ranks.

It is hard to see Tottenham being willing to sell Son anytime soon. He has been an outstanding performer for the club – closing in on a century of goals in the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino suggested this week that he is a ‘fantastic’ player, who has improved considerably.

He has not been at his best this season. But he is too good a player to be written off. And you would imagine that he will be making an impact for Spurs once again after the World Cup break.

Much may depend on how much Son wishes to try something new. He turns 31 next summer. So there may not be too many more opportunities to move to the Bernabeu.

But if he remains more than happy to stay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Daniel Levy will probably have little interest in listening to Real’s attempts to take him to the Spanish capital.
