Mauricio Pochettino has told Yonhap News Agency that the improvement Son Heung-min made after joining Tottenham Hotspur was fantastic, with the Argentinian claiming that he is now one of the best forwards in the world.

Son, of course, is usually one of the first names on Antonio Conte’s team sheet. He is closing in on a century of goals in the Premier League. Meanwhile, he has 212 goal involvements in 344 appearances for the club in all competitions.

But it has certainly not always been plain-sailing for Son. The 30-year-old scored just four goals during his first campaign at White Hart Lane. And there appeared to be doubts that he would stay at Tottenham for much longer.

In fact, Son admitted in 2016 that he had wished to leave. He had had concerns over his game-time during that first campaign.

However, Spurs kept the forward. And it seems that Pochettino never had any doubts that he would come good as he lauded his improvement while he is at the World Cup with South Korea.

“We saw the potential of him and the evolution was fantastic,” Pochettino told Yonhap News Agency.

“He deserves the credit. Today, he’s one of the best offensive players in the world.”

It has been a frustrating season for Son. He won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last year. But he went into the World Cup having only scored three times in the top-flight.

And all of those goals came in one single game. Remarkably, that particular fixture was the one which had seen Son finally dropped from the starting lineup after a poor run of form.

Unfortunately, he has, so far, been unable to inspire his country to a win at the World Cup. But they still have an opportunity to get through to the knockout stages should they win their final group game.

It would be fantastic if Son could inspire South Korea to victory to get some momentum going ahead of his return to Tottenham.

While he has been struggling, there is no doubt that he has the quality to turn his fortunes around very quickly.
