Report: Quiet confidence £100k-a-week Tottenham star will sign new deal after considering Serie A move this summer
Hugo Lloris considered leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Roma in the summer, but is now looking increasingly likely to sign a new contract with Spurs, according to a report from The Athletic.
Lloris is currently set to be out of contract in the summer. The 34-year-old however, has arguably been one of Tottenham’s best players over the last 12 months.
It was recently reported that discussions over a new deal were set to start in the coming weeks. And The Athletic has suggested talks will intensify in the near future.
The report notes that there is a quiet confidence that the Frenchman will sign an extension.
Interestingly, The Athletic has provided a further insight into how seriously Lloris thought about leaving in the summer. In fact, they suggest that he considered a move to Roma and an immediate reunion with Jose Mourinho.
The report suggests that Lloris previously felt that there was an over-reliance on himself and Harry Kane when it came to leadership within the squad.
Lloris ready to hand Tottenham a huge boost amid contract reports
Keeping Lloris – who earns £100,000-a-week – will be fantastic news for Tottenham. It is clear that he still has plenty to offer. And it is not yet clear who will succeed him as number one in North London.
Lloris sticking around leaves Spurs with more time. They have been linked with other goalkeepers. Jordan Pickford is one of those reportedly on the radar. And Everton are apparently keen to sell him.
But Tottenham may soon not need to worry about rushing into a decision on who succeeds Lloris.
