Report: Pochettino wants to make Barcelona star his first Chelsea signing

Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of becoming the next Chelsea manager, and the Argentine wants Barcelona youngster Gavi to be his first signing at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have had a shocking campaign. They are currently 11th in the table, just 12 points above the drop zone. The sooner this campaign ends, the better it is for Blues fans to move on.

Pochettino is close to being named the new Chelsea boss, and he already has a transfer target in mind, according to Sport (print edition, 9th May 2023, page 19).

Chelsea’s first aim once the season comes to a close is to get rid of the players they don’t want.

The Blues squad, as we all know, is huge, and there is just no way they can start the next campaign with these many players still available at the manager’s disposal.

Once that’s done, Pochettino, if he does become the Chelsea manager, will be given the resources to sign who he wants, and the report claims his first priority is midfield.

It has been reported that Pochettino will begin his rebuild by strengthening the middle of Chelsea’s park, and Barcelona’s ‘spectacular‘ youngster Gavi is the player he wants to sign.

The report, as relayed on Sportwitness, claims Pochettino ‘really likes’ Gavi. Barcelona’s difficult financial position could open the door for Chelsea to sign him this summer.

Gavi has been offered a new contract by Barcelona and he has accepted it as well. However, La Liga haven’t approved it because of the financial mess Barca are in.

So, as things stand, Gavi is on his youth team contract, and that expires at the end of June this year. If the Catalans can’t sort their problems out by then, the youngster will become a wanted man.

However, it has been reported that Gavi wants to stay at Barcelona if the club can get his contract approved.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Gavi this summer.
