Arsenal are set to sign Marquinhos from Sao Paulo, and the young Brazilian has now been compared to Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura.

Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that a deal between all parties has been signed and it’s only a matter of time before the teenager will be announced as a new Arsenal player.

The Gunners will pay Sao Paulo a little under £3 million for Marquinhos, who is a talented young right-winger with the potential of becoming a real star in the coming years.

When Arsenal fans heard they were signing a young attacker from Brazil, everyone’s mind went to Gabriel Martinelli. However, Goal have now claimed that he’s a lot like another Brazilian who plays his football in North London.

Marquinhos has the same strengths as Tottenham star Lucas Moura

The outlet highlight how Arsenal fans have been comparing Marquinhos to Martinelli. The Gunners signed him from the fourth-tier of Brazilian football, and he has turned out to be a real star.

It’s no surprise that Gooners are hoping Marquinhos will be like Martinelli, but fans of Sao Paulo reportedly think he shares the same strengths as Tottenham star Lucas, who also came through the Brazilian club’s academy all those years ago.

Marquinhos is ‘electrifyingly fast’ and his pace is a thorn to the opposition. He constantly stretches the opposing backline, and his dribbling is really good for someone of his age as well. To add to that, he mostly features on the right-wing.

It’s no surprise that Sao Paulo fans think he’s a lot like Lucas, who has played over 450 games for club and country since leaving his boyhood club.

When he was still a young man at Sao Paulo, Lucas was regarded by many as the next big thing to come out of Brazilian football.

He played 86 times for them before securing a big move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013. Lucas won a grand total of 18 trophies during his time in the French capital, including five league titles.

The winger hasn’t really fulfilled the potential he once showed as a kid, but he has had an accomplished career. Marquinhos will be hoping to do just that after his move to Arsenal is made official.

Arsenal fans, however, will be hoping that Marquinhos is a lot better than his £23 million compatriot at Tottenham, who has scored just 38 times in over 200 games for Spurs.
