Report: PL side enter talks to sign £20m Tottenham and West Ham target
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham may be about to be dealt an early blow ahead of the January transfer window, with 90min reporting that one of their Premier League rivals have entered talks to sign Brennan Johnson.
It was reported this week that a number of top-flight sides are interested in the Nottingham Forest starlet. He has made a brilliant start to the season, scoring five and contributing five assists for the Championship play-off chasers.
The Daily Mail suggested that Spurs, the Hammers, Newcastle and Everton all want the Wales international. And it was claimed that Forest want £20 million for the 20-year-old.
But perhaps, it may be another Premier League side stealing a march on their rivals in the battle for Johnson’s signature.
90min is now claiming that Brentford have begun discussions over a move. Interestingly, it is suggested that the Bees are not willing to pay £20 million for him next month.
The report suggests that Forest hope that Johnson will sign a new contract should they seal promotion. So it would appear that they are still somewhat optimistic that he will stick around beyond January, at least.
Brentford talks should inspire likes of Tottenham and West Ham to consider stepping up Brennan Johnson pursuit
Johnson looks to be an incredibly exciting talent. He is not the finished article yet. But he looks to be well on his way, having stepped up this year following a loan spell in League One last season.
It would appear that Brentford need to reach a compromise to agree a January deal. But the reports should still alert the likes of Tottenham and West Ham.
The amount of interest means that it is not out of the question for one side to meet his asking price – especially when you consider that sides are already entering into talks. And obviously, luring him away from the City Ground will be incredibly difficult if Forest seal promotion.
