Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Newcastle are amongst a host of Premier League clubs monitoring Brennan Johnson ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Wales international has been a revelation in the Championship this season. He has scored five goals and contributed five assists for Nottingham Forest, who have flown up the table since Steve Cooper’s appointment.

Understandably, Forest hope to keep Johnson for the rest of the campaign as they push for the play-off places. But they may well face a fight to ensure the 20-year-old stays at the City Ground.

The Daily Mail reports that Spurs are keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder. However, Everton, Newcastle, West Ham, and Brentford are also admirers.

It is claimed that Forest would struggle to turn down a £20 million bid for Johnson during the January transfer window. That is double what the club were reportedly looking for earlier this year.

Tottenham and West Ham target Brennan Johnson looks the real deal

As things stand, Johnson is out of contract at the end of next season. So a £20 million fee would certainly be a good piece of business – if agreeing fresh terms with the academy graduate becomes difficult.

But Johnson has been one of the most exciting talents in the second tier so far this season. Before that, he was absolutely brilliant on loan with Lincoln City one level below.

West Ham, in particular, have had great success when signing players taking the Championship by storm. The Mail points to Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma. But of course, it was Forest who sold Michail Antonio to the Hammers.

Tottenham meanwhile, have not had the same luck. Ryan Sessegnon is starting to find his feet after really making a name for himself in the Championship. But players such as Joe Rodon and Jack Clarke have not hadthe success that they would have perhaps hoped for.

Obviously, Spurs are under different management now. And Johnson definitely has the potential to be the real deal.
