Report: PL club will now consider offers for striker Newcastle want; Shearer called him 'superb'

Newcastle United look set to end the January transfer window on a high note.

The Magpies have already got the Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood deals over the line.

And Bruno Guimaraes is seemingly closing in on a switch to St James’ Park too.

As things stand, a striker is no longer a big priority for Newcastle.

That said, an “unbelievable” player the Magpies have reportedly been eyeing could now be on the move.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool will now consider offers for Divock Origi.

Earlier this month, The Telegraph claimed that Newcastle are eyeing the Anfield and Belgium marksman.

In addition, the outlet claimed Origi may cost the Magpies – or any other suitors – as little as £7million.

Over the past 24 hours, Liverpool have reportedly been closing in on Luis Diaz.

Indeed, the Reds are in the ‘final stages’ of negotiations, according to Fabrizio Romano.

If Liverpool get the deal over the line, they’ll have Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

In addition, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in great form, Harvey Elliott is closing in on a return from injury, and they also have a top youngster in Kaide Gordon.

Therefore, Origi and Minamino are likely slip further down the pecking order and could leave by Monday.

The Belgium striker is out of contract this summer, although there is a clause in his contract that will trigger an extra year if he plays a certain number of matches.

Newcastle must swoop for Origi – TBR View

Despite being a bit-part player for much of his time at Liverpool, he has etched his name in Anfield folklore.

From his role in the Champions League triumph of 2019 to scoring crucial and late goals, he’s proven at the highest level.

Alan Shearer lauded Origi after he helped the Reds overcome Barcelona 4-0 in that famous Champions League semi-final second leg

“Origi’s hold-up play, his finishing, he ran Barcelona ragged and they couldn’t handle him,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live (7/5/2019). “He was superb.”

Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, labelled Origi “unbelievable” after he scored a winner against Wolves last year.

He praised the way the 26-year-old is able to step up whenever he does get the nod to play.

Meanwhile, Pep Lijnders described him as a “world-class finisher“.

Now, Newcastle have a great chance to land a proven elite striker for a bargain price.
