Report: Pep Guardiola understood to be a fan of Anthony Gordon

Pep Guardiola is a fan of Anthony Gordon as Everton continue to fight to keep the youngster at Goodison Park this summer, according to a report from The Times.

Chelsea appear to be leading the charge to sign the 21-year-old right now. The Times reports that the Blues have seen a £45 million bid rejected for the attacking midfielder, with Everton’s valuation set at £50 million.

Of course, Thomas Tuchel’s side are not the only team to register an interest this summer. Reports previously claimed that Tottenham made a £100 million bid for both Gordon and Richarlison.

Newcastle have also made an offer for Gordon in this window. And now, it is Chelsea testing Everton’s resolve.

Everton want to agree a new contract with the youngster. What will not help the Toffees however, is that there is even more interest in Gordon.

In fact, The Times reports that Guardiola is an admirer of the Everton starlet. It is not clear whether there is any interest from Manchester City in making a move in this window.

Losing Gordon would be a huge blow for Everton this summer. The Toffees are already struggling in the final third after selling Richarlison and losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury.

Gordon was a shining light for the club last season. Only Richarlison and perhaps Jordan Pickford did more to keep the club in the Premier League. Lampard labelled him ‘amazing‘ at one stage.

It is hard to imagine Manchester City making a move this summer given the depth they have. But obviously, that could change if Guardiola really is a huge fan and it seems that he is Chelsea-bound.

Interest from City certainly strengthens Gordon’s position as Everton look to hand him a new deal.
