Report: Patrick Vieira could lure two Manchester City players to Crystal Palace, including 24-year-old

Football site 90Min claim that Patrick Vieira could raid his old club Manchester City and sign two out-of-favour players for Crystal Palace. The first of those is defender Philippe Sandler, who is ‘available for transfer’. The other is young midfielder Claudio Gomes, who could go on loan.

Vieira has already completed a deal for Michael Olise from Reading – for a fee in the region of £8million. The Arsenal legend is also reportedly in talks to sign Andre Ayew. That is, despite the free agent being linked with Celtic and Newcastle. A rebuild is certainly needed.

More than 10 have left the club on a free. A centre-back is needed after the exits of Scott Dann, Gary Cahill and Mamadou Sakho. That is where Sandler could be signed. After ankle surgery, he managed five games at the end of last season for City’s Premier League 2 team – in which City won all five.

Sandler is available on a permanent deal and despite playing twice for the senior side, he is in the final 12 months of his contract. Gomes, 20, could be signed on loan – another defender that can play anywhere across the back four. He can also do a job in holding midfield.

Vieira ideal Palace choice, amid interest in Manchester City men Sandler and Gomes

That is because he not only has the pulling power of a big-name in the game, but also because the new Palace gaffer has contacts. Having spent so long at Arsenal, the Gunners will surely give him a helping hand. A number of fringe players have already been linked with a move to Selhurst Park.

But also the fact that Vieira worked as Manchester City’s reserve team gaffer means he knows plenty of City players currently on the sidelines. Sandler is not a household name and at 24, it is a wonder why he is still on City’s books. But under Vieira, he could shine.
