Report: Palace in talks to sign Celtic and Newcastle-linked free agent
Football site 90Min claim that Patrick Vieira is in talks to sign free agent Andre Ayew at Crystal Palace. The elder brother of Jordan Ayew, Andre is without a club after his contract at Swansea expired this summer. Ayew has been linked with Celtic and Newcastle, but Palace are stealing a march.
Ayew, 31, scored 17 goals for Swansea last season as he tried to get the Welsh club back into the Premier League. But after losing in the play-offs for a second consecutive season, Ayew has chosen not to renew his deal at Swansea and is now looking for a new team. Palace are closing in.
According to GHANASoccrenet.com, Newcastle are keen while an earlier report from the same outlet touted Celtic as an option. However, Steve Bruce’s side and the Scottish giants look set to miss out – with Vieira stealing a march. Talks are ongoing. Ayew wants to live in London.
Celtic and Newcastle really need to get their act together as Palace close in on Ayew
In terms of free agents with Premier League experience, there aren’t many better than Ayew. Still scoring goals and plenty of them in the Championship, the versatile attacker offers quality from either flank, as a 10 or up front. Celtic and Newcastle really need to try and convince him.
But for Ayew, a move to join his brother at a London club is pretty much perfect. If Celtic or Newcastle were going to convince Ayew, they have probably waited too long. The lure of Patrick Vieira will also surely convince Ayew, even if Celtic are in the Champions League.
