Newcastle United are working on a deal to sign Jesse Lingard on loan, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that the Magpies are prepared to cover all of his £100,000-a-week wages.

Lingard looks set to be on the move from Old Trafford sooner or later. His contract expires at the end of the season. And he has barely had a chance in the Premier League this term.

A loan spell at West Ham during the second-half of last year looked set to relaunch his career. Rio Ferdinand labelled his impact ‘amazing‘. And it appears that Lingard could now move to Newcastle on a similar deal this month.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Tottenham want to sign Lingard permanently this summer. And it is said that the 29-year-old would prefer to return to London.

However, Newcastle are set to offer him a way out during this window. The report claims that the Magpies are working on a loan deal. And they are ready to foot the bill for his wages.

Newcastle taking Jesse Lingard on loan is perfect for Manchester United

Ralf Rangnick’s men need a serious upturn in form to make the top four in the Premier League this season. They have won one of their last four.

Obviously, loaning Lingard to Tottenham or West Ham would be a real gamble. Both clubs are currently above Manchester United in the table.

Sending Lingard to Newcastle however, could be inspired. He would not be able to play against his parent club. But he would be able to play against West Ham in February, Tottenham in April, and Arsenal in May.

A loan move to Newcastle is not bad news for Spurs either. That would mean that the door remains open for a potential permanent move to North London in the summer.

And if Lingard heads to Tyneside and replicates his form from last year, he can surely expect some mouthwatering offers when his contract does expire.
