Newcastle United will attempt to sign Premier League star James Maddison this summer, according to reports.

The latest report from the Telegraph states that Newcastle will make an offer for Maddison at the end of the season.

They will only push forward if the player is keen to move. They do not want to be seen as a back-up option for the player.

The good news for the club is that the Magpies have been alerted to the fact that the Leicester City attacking midfielder seems open to a Newcastle move.

Maddison is a ‘long-term’ target for manager Eddie Howe. They have other midfielders on their list but the English international is a top option.

Newcastle want James Maddison

Maddison is a very exciting attacking midfielder. He has 78 goals and 66 assists so far in his career. This has included 10 goals in the Premier League this season.

The 26 year-old has recently got himself into the England set up as well. He would be a great asset for a Newcastle side who need more quality in their squad.

The £60million star would no doubt be even more tempted by the move if Newcastle qualify for the Champions League. This is looking very likely.

Many have praised him over the years, with pundit Gary Lineker calling him “exceptional“. It would be a great coup if the Magpies could sign him over the summer.

With Leicester possibly getting relegated, Maddison will want to push a move through as soon as possible when the transfer window opens.
