Report: Newcastle will hold talks over 'incredible' £50m star today
Newcastle United are set to hold talks on Sunday regarding a potential move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma during the January transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The Magpies have given their hopes of survival a fresh boost with a huge win away at Leeds on Saturday. Their attention now will solely be on bringing in new signings before the deadline.
And it appears that one of the top names on their wishlist is Bissouma. The Daily Mail reports that they are battling Aston Villa and several European heavyweights for the 25-year-old.
It has previously been suggested that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are looking for players with his profile.
However, Villa are looking elsewhere due to his £50 million asking price and wage demands. Meanwhile, his other admirers are looking at a potential move this summer.
And that has tempted Newcastle to try and steal a march. In fact, the Daily Mail reports that they are set to hold talks regarding a possible bid today.
Newcastle attracting players such as Yves Bissouma surely easier after huge win in relegation fight
Signing Bissouma would be a significant statement. Presumably, they will have to break their transfer record to bring him to St James’ Park.
Victories like the one they got at Elland Road on Saturday should only help them attract better players. They are within touching distance of getting out of the bottom three. And clearly, the window is not going to close without others coming in.
Brighton boss Graham Potter previously suggested that Bissouma had ‘incredible‘ potential. So convincing him to move to Tyneside will be tricky.
He only has 18 months left on his contract. So the Mali international is in a strong position.
But, if Bissouma is keen on making the move, Newcastle stepping up their pursuit in the coming hours could prove to be a pivotal decision from Eddie Howe’s side.
