Report: Newcastle want Yannick Carrasco as well as Renan Lodi
Renan Lodi is not the only Atletico Madrid player Newcastle United want, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Yannick Carrasco is a player they absolutely love.
The Magpies are definitely one side to watch in the summer. Their January signings played a massive part in Eddie Howe’s side pulling themselves away from danger.
And there are likely to be further changes in the coming months. Reports have already suggested that Newcastle plan to bid for Lodi.
Matt Targett spent the second-half of the campaign on loan. But it would appear that he may not stay beyond this season.
Lodi is their top target at left-back, according to Mundo Deportivo. Atletico are open to selling the 24-year-old, but want around £42.5 million for the Brazilian.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have reignited their interest in Carrasco. Reports claimed that they planned to make a bid on the final day of the January transfer window. And Mundo Deportivo suggests that they love the player.
Diego Simeone wants Carrasco to stay. However, he has a release clause of £51 million. So they may be powerless to stop him leaving.
Newcastle want Carrasco and Lodi
Newcastle, of course, greatly benefitted from signing one player from Atleti this year. Kieran Trippier’s arrival proved to be a pivotal moment in their season.
Atletico have been one of Europe’s best sides under Simeone. And Carrasco is someone the Argentinian has described as a ‘very complete‘ player.
Both Lodi and Carrasco have been stalwarts of the side this past season. And together, they could transform Newcastle’s left flank if they both moved to Tyneside.
But clearly, the pair will not come cheap. Newcastle face spending over £90 million to sign both players. And the Magpies may be wary of spending so much on the pair.
