Report: Newcastle want 'fantastic' £30m star to be their next signing

Newcastle United are hoping that a move for Lucas Digne can progress quickly with the Everton star one of the next names on their wishlist as a deal for Kieran Trippier nears, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Trippier is looking set to become the Magpies’ first signing of the January transfer window. It has been reported that the Atletico Madrid full-back is set to undergo a medical. He is set to cost an initial £12 million.

Newcastle are not planning to hang around before making their next move, it seems. The Telegraph reports that Digne will be one of their next targets.

And interestingly, the report suggests that Newcastle hope the deal for Digne can progress quickly.

7 Footballers Who Refuse To Retire

A number of sides want the Everton star. Sky Sports names Chelsea, West Ham and Napoli as fellow admirers of the Newcastle target. However, the Toffees are not planning to let the Frenchman go on the cheap.

In fact, that report from Sky Sports suggested that their asking price is £30 million.

That would certainly play into Newcastle’s hands. But it also highlights the problem the Magpies face with potential targets.

Clubs know that they can probably demand more for players Newcastle want, particularly if several sides find themselves vying for their signature.

Newcastle move for Lucas Digne likely to suit all parties if Everton get £30m fee

Everton have been busy in the opening stages of the window. Both Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson have already arrived. So they may welcome the chance to receive a big fee for Digne.

He has fallen out of favour with Rafa Benitez. So getting £30 million would arguably be a very good piece of business.

For Newcastle meanwhile, Digne would have the potential to be a very impressive signing. He is brilliant going forward. And he has previously been labelled a fantastic example by Marco Silva.

Based on The Telegraph’s report, it may not be too long until we find out whether he is Tyneside-bound or not.
