Report: Newcastle United will have to break their transfer record to sign 'incredible' striker, he's tempted to join them
Newcastle United have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer and have been linked with a move for Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko, but the Daily Mail reports that they will have to break their transfer record to sign him.
Last week, reports suggested that Sesko could be tempted to join Newcastle this summer as the club are building a big project in England.
The Magpies may face competition for the striker though, as Manchester United are also monitoring the 19-year-old as doubts remain over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.
But if Newcastle do move for the ‘incredible’ Sesko, then they may have to smash their record transfer fee to bring him to St James’ Park.
Newcastle will have to break transfer record
Manchester United are apparently interested and have spoken to the Austrian club but are reluctant to meet their demands, which could open the door for Newcastle.
The Magpies broke their record fee very recently after Bruno Guimaraes’ initial £35 million fee ended up reaching £41.5 million after they avoided relegation last season (Daily Mail).
The fee for Guimaraes surpassed what they paid for his compatriot Joelinton and it seems they may have to break this record once again if they want to land the Salzburg man.
Newcastle need attacking reinforcements
Eddie Howe is clearly keen to bring in more attacking players this summer as the club have been linked to numerous attackers.
With concerns over Callum Wilson’s injury record, Howe will be desperate to land another striker to provide competition for the Englishman at St. James’ Park.
At just 19 years of age, Sesko enjoyed a brilliant campaign for Salzburg last season. The Slovenia international scored 11 goals and put up seven assists in 37 games for the Austrian side.
The young striker seems to fit the bill for the budding Newcastle project and could become their main man for years to come. But if they want to sign him, they’ll seemingly have to meet Salzburg’s demands and smash their record transfer fee for the second time this year.
