Report: Newcastle United now want to sign 25-year-old who’s just been knocked out of the World Cup, Eddie Howe’s a big fan
Newcastle are seemingly in the market for a new left-back, despite Dan Burn’s excellent performances this season.
The Magpies did bring in Matt Targett from Aston Villa over the summer but he has mainly been limited to substitute appearances this season.
Robinson enjoyed a decent World Cup campaign with the USMNT, despite their last-16 defeat to Holland on Saturday.
And off the back of an impressive tournament for the Fulham man, he is now on Eddie Howe’s list of potential left-back targets.
Newcastle want Robinson
TeamTalk reports that Newcastle are ready to join the race to sign Robinson, with Inter Milan also interested in the full-back.
Howe is targeting a move for a ‘specialist’ left-back to help maintain their surprise assault on the top four and is said to be a fan of Robinson.
Robinson has been ever present at left-back for Fulham this season, making 13 appearances for Macro Silva’s side in the Premier League.
It’s no surprise to see Robinson linked with a move away from Craven Cottage after he really caught the eye in Qatar. He put in a particularly impressive display as Gregg Berhalter’s side held England to a goalless draw ten days ago.
Bild reports that Newcastle are also interested in VfB Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa – who is enjoying a brilliant World Cup with Croatia.
Burn has been one of many standout performers at St. James’ Park this season but Newcastle may need a more attacking option at left-back.
Target is a good squad player but if Newcastle have aspirations of maintaining their push for top four, Howe will need reinforcements in the position.
