Report: Newcastle United interested in signing £17m player who crosses like David Beckham, he wants to leave
Newcastle are flying high right now and their impressive start to the season has left them in third place in the Premier League heading into the World Cup.
Eddie Howe has built a brilliant side over the past year and the club have made some astute signings. Summer additions like Sven Botman, Alexander Isak and Nick Pope have added real depth to the squad.
The Magpies boast the join-best defensive record in the league at the moment, having only conceded eleven goals so far.
But they are seemingly still aiming to bolster Howe’s backline and are targeting a move for left-back Sosa.
Newcastle interested in Sosa
Bild reports that Sosa is keen to move on from Stuttgart as he aims to take the next step in his career.
The Croatian wants a move to a top club, with Inter Milan, Bergamo and Newcastle said to be interested.
The 24-year-old is under contract until 2025 and Stuttgart value the player at around £17.4 million.
The attacking full-back has been selected as part of Croatia’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Sosa is known for his creativity from left-back and has already provided eight assists in all competitions for Stuttgart this season.
He boasts a brilliant delivery with his left-foot and it’s even led to his crossing being compared to that of David Beckham’s.
Sosa crosses like Beckham
Stuttgart’s sporting director Sven Mislintat once said that he possesses the ‘same qualities’ as the Manchester United legend.
“Borna’s said himself that David Beckham is his role model, and I think he has the same qualities,” Mislintat told Bild.
“He puts in crosses from every angle: sometimes chipped, sometimes drilled, sometimes flat, sometimes in behind, sometimes to the front post, other times to the back post. His left foot is a real weapon.”
Dan Burn has performed excellently for Newcastle since moving to left-back and has been an important part of their solid backline.
Matt Targett was only brought in over the summer too but Sosa could represent a significant upgrade on the former Aston Villa man.
Sosa has shown over a number of seasons that he can provide real creativity from full-back and it would give Howe a different type of option in the position.
