Newcastle United have had a club record £59m bid accepted for Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak.

The report from El Diario Vasco suggests that Real Sociedad couldn’t turn down the bid from Newcastle, which includes £4.2m in add-ons and 10% of any future sale.

If the transfer goes through, it would be the most expensive deal Newcastle have ever done.

Their previous record signing was Joelinton, who joined the club three years ago for £40m.

Isak is an exciting, young attacking talent, and was one of the highlights of last summer’s European Championships.

Real Madrid were previously credited with interest in Isak this summer, but the ‘exceptional’ forward appears to be on his way to Newcastle.

Newcastle have club record Isak bid accepted

The Magpies’ spending this summer has been quite measured considering their new, vast resources.

So far Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett are the only arrivals at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have been on the search for a forward this summer, with Watford’s Joao Pedro closely linked with a move.

The report from El Diario Vasco suggests Newcastle and Eddie Howe have wanted Isak all summer, and have finally submitted a bid Los Txuri-Urdin are happy with.

He would complement Newcastle’s direct, quick attacking threat, as a precise dribbler.

His ability to play across the front line would also be of benefit to Newcastle, allowing Howe to rotate his attacking options.

Isak only scored six league goals last season in La Liga, but was prolific two seasons ago, scoring 17 times as Real Sociedad finished in an impressive fifth place.

The report does not suggest personal terms have been agreed yet, so a deal may not be close to being completed, but Newcastle might finally have the attacking reinforcement they’ve been searching for all summer.
