Newcastle United and Liverpool are amongst the Premier League clubs to have been informed that Moises Caicedo may now be available for £65 million, with the Daily Mirror reporting that his admirers had previously been told that the Brighton star would cost £85 million.

Caicedo is now one of the most highly sought-after midfielders in the Premier League. He has been outstanding for the Seagulls this term, taking his chance with both hands following the sale of Yves Bissouma.

It has not taken long for the interest in him to build. The Daily Mirror reports that the Magpies are amongst the pace-setters in the race for his signature. Meanwhile, the report notes that Liverpool are well-placed in the battle. Chelsea are also very interested, with Graham Potter at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle and Liverpool target Caicedo to cost less than previously thought

The report claims that the trio previously thought that they would have to pay £85 million for Caicedo. However, it seems that that is not the case after all.

In fact, the Daily Mirror reports that Newcastle and Liverpool have learned that £65 million may be enough to get a deal done.

It is not clear what has prompted the change in price. Perhaps Brighton were always anticipating that claims of wanting £85 million would help keep his suitors at bay.

The interest in Caicedo certainly hints that Brighton will do well to keep him for much longer. Admittedly, he will probably be in no rush to leave the Seagulls given the success they are enjoying right now.

But he has three Premier League heavyweights after him. Liverpool and Chelsea absolutely need to strengthen in midfield in the near future. Meanwhile, Newcastle are just continuing to make rapid progress under Eddie Howe.

He has been labelled ‘magnificent‘ this season. And FBRef lists the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Fabinho as players similar to the Ecuador international.

The news that he will cost less than previously thought will surely tempt one of his admirers to make a bid in the near future.
