‘Magnificent’: Jamie Redknapp says midfielder Liverpool reportedly want to sign makes tackling look so easy
Caicedo was in action for Brighton today as his side faced off against Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium.
The 21-year-old is enjoying an excellent campaign for the Seagulls after impressing during the second-half of last season.
His displays have led to apparent interest from Liverpool, with the Mirror reporting last week that Jurgen Klopp’s men have entered the race to sign him next summer.
Redknapp was full of praise for the midfielder today and feels there will be many clubs battling for his signature.
Redknapp says Caicedo makes tackling look easy
Speaking on Sky Sports today, Redknapp praised Caicedo and compared his tackling to that of former Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker.
“Brilliant recruitment as well. When they signed him they had [Yves] Bissouma playing in the position.
“He [Caicedo] had a spell in Belgium where he was very successful; they bought him back when they sold Bissouma to Tottenham. He has been magnificent.
“He possesses all the attributes to play really well in every area. He’s a brilliant tackler, the timing has to be spot on with the modern game. You get it wrong, you get booked, you’re on a knife edge for the rest of the game.
“But he makes tackling look so easy. I remember Scott Parker was a magnificent tackler, used to do this very well.
“He can also play, he’s very progressive with his passing, looks to play people in. He’s just been a revelation since he’s come there and I’m sure a lot of clubs will be looking at him right now. He also has an eye for goal, he gets forward.”
It’s no secret that Liverpool will be aiming to bolster Klopp’s midfield options during the upcoming transfer windows.
The midfield area has looked like a weak spot for the Reds this season, with Fabinho previously playing below his usual high standards.
Thiago and Jordan Henderson have also picked up injuries during the current campaign, which left Klopp short at the time.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Jude Bellingham, but they’ll face stiff competition for the Borussia Dortmund star’s signature.
If they are unable to land the Englishman, Caicedo could represent a brilliant option for the Reds.
At just 21, Caicedo has been putting in some commanding displays for the Seagulls and will only improve.
