Newcastle United are pressing ahead with the pursuit of a new director of football and could look to bring someone in as early as next week.
A report from The Times claims that Newcastle are looking to accelerate their plans to appoint both a new DoF and a new manager. It is thought that four names, including Ralf Rangnick, Paul Mitchell, Marc Overmars, and Luis Campos, are all on the list of potential candidates.

However, The Times also reports that of those four, it won’t be Marc Overmars who is given the Newcastle job. That could have ramifications when it comes to Erik ten Hag joining as manager. The Ajax coach has been linked with the job, but is said to have reservations.
Newcastle’s new owners have yet to see their team win. A morale denting 3-0 defeat against Chelsea yesterday did little to lift spirits. Indeed, even Graeme Jones admitted after the game that a new face was needed.
TBR’s View: Time for Newcastle to make some moves
We’re three games into the PIF reign now and we’ve seen nothing at all in terms of improvement for Newcastle. On and off the pitch, that is.
It’s now vital for the club that they land both a director of football and also a manager. This team needs fresh impetus, and that will only come with moves being made off the field.
There is a lot of promise for Newcastle under PIF. But they must stave off relegation first, and games will start to run out. Fast. The decision to not bring Overmars to Newcastle is certainly intriguing. Whether that does directly impact the Ten Hag pursuit, remains to be seen.
