According to Italian outlet ANSA, Newcastle have lodged a bid to secure a double deal for Atalanta stars Duvan Zapata and Robin Gosens.

The Magpies have already signed a striker and a full-back in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier. However, Eddie Howe isn’t done yet and is looking for another centre-forward and a full-back on the opposite side.

Newcastle have been linked with plenty of names for both positions already. Money is no longer an issue for them and if a latest report is to be believed, they have tabled a big bid to sign two players from the same club.

Zapata and Gosens are reportedly very high on Howe’s wish list.

Newcastle bid £42m for Gosens and Zapata

The report claims that Newcastle have made a double offer worth £42 million (€50m) to sign Zapata and Gosens.

The two Atalanta stars have been incredible over the last few years.

Zapata, compared to Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku by Riccardo Ferri, has scored nine goals in 14 starts in Serie A this season, while Gosens, branded as ‘amazing’ by ex-Germany boss Joachim Low, has impressed despite what has been an injury-hit campaign.

Newcastle have tabled a big offer to sign the two teammates, but if the report is to be believed, Atalanta are set to reject the bid as they feel it’s not big enough.

TBR View:

Zapata is a proven goalscorer who has been brilliant in Italy over the last few years. However, the Colombian is 30 already and he would only be a short-term option for the Magpies, which is not ideal, especially after Wood’s arrival.

As for Gosens, he would be an incredible signing. The Germany international has consistently proved his quality for club and country in recent years. He is a fantastic option at left-back and he’s even better as a wing-back or as a left midfielder if Howe wants to use him higher up the pitch.

Both Zapata and Gosens, if they hit the ground running, would be fantastic for Newcastle, but Howe should really prioritise the latter.

However, he has only played a little over 550 minutes of football all season and hasn’t played a game since September due to injury. That is a serious concern, but if Newcastle’s medical team give the green light, Howe should go all out for him this month.
