Report: Newcastle have now been offered 'world-class' talent for just £16m if they sign him before January ends

Newcastle United and Manchester United have apparently been offered the chance to sign Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele, for a bargain fee of around £16m this month.

Dembele is still regarded as one of the hottest properties in European football. This, despite flattering to deceive since making a mega-money £135m move to Barcelona in 2017. The Frenchman has yet to sign a new deal with the Nou Camp outfit, and time and patience is running out it seems.

And according to Sport, Barca have now openly offered up Dembele to both Newcastle and Manchester United. Sport claims that the La Liga giants are willing to let Dembele go this month for around £16m. That, of course, would represent a huge loss for Barca, given the initial outlay.

However, it’s believed Xavi is getting fed up with the ongoing contract situation. Barca, then, are keen to at least recoup some money on a player who is said to be demanding huge sums. It’s claimed he’s asked for a weekly wage in the region of £640k-a-week. A quite ludicrous amount for anyone, nevermind a player who simply hasn’t delivered.

Newcastle, despite all their riches from PIF, won’t be shelling that sort of money out on one player just yet.

TBR’s View: Ousmane Dembele Seems Like A Waste Of TIme

For all the talk of his talent and what he might become, Ousmane Dembele is becoming a bit of a circus if you read into all the different reports.

Those wage demands are ridiculous. Further, his form has hardly been awe-inspiring. He’s shown the odd moment of magic this season. But he’s in a Barcelona team struggling, and he’s not exactly showing why he should be Messi’s replacement.

Newcastle would be better off staying out of this one. The wages, entourage, and all-round package just doesn’t seem to be worth the hassle. As things stand, he looks a far cry from being the ‘world-class’ talent former Toon defender Jose Enrique tipped him to be.
