Newcastle United are monitoring Everton defender Ben Godfrey ahead of the summer after looking at the England international during the January transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
The Magpies look to be within a couple of wins of ensuring that they will remain in the Premier League next year. Everton meanwhile, remain right in the battle to beat the drop.

The Toffees did boost their hopes with a dramatic 1-0 win over Eddie Howe’s side at Goodison Park this week. But Frank Lampard’s men are only three points clear. And it has been well-documented that they face a gruelling run of games until the end of the season.
Should they go down, several players will likely attract offers. And one of those set to have admirers is Godfrey, with Newcastle keen.

The Daily Mirror reports that Newcastle were interested in signing Godfrey in January. And Howe is a big fan of the 24-year-old. They are now set to reignite their interest in the summer.
Reports claimed that they were also keen back in 2020.
Newcastle target Ben Godfrey clearly a major talent despite Everton struggles
Only a couple of Everton players have covered themselves in any kind of glory this term. And Godfrey is probably not one of them.
However, he could have a bright future ahead. Carlo Ancelotti previously labelled him a ‘really fantastic‘ defender, and suggested that he was stunned by his development. And there have been plenty of occasions when he has looked like Everton’s best option at the back.
Newcastle will be hoping that Godfrey can rediscover his best form if they make a move. He is certainly going to be one player who will get the chance to leave if Everton do go down.
