Report: Newcastle rebuffed after Dean Henderson loan approach

Newcastle United were rebuffed after making tentative contact with Manchester United regarding a loan move for Dean Henderson, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Magpies are continuing their push to get new signings through the door. And with the halfway point in the January transfer window now in the rearview mirror, the need for additions has only increased.

It does appear that a new centre-back and striker are the priorities. They have apparently agreed personal terms with Duvan Zapata and are set to make an improved bid for the Atalanta striker.

Meanwhile, Diego Carlos has reportedly told Sevilla that he wants to join Newcastle. But Eddie Howe’s men are looking at other positions, too.

The Athletic has suggested that there was a tentative enquiry regarding loaning Henderson. The England international is yet to play in the Premier League this season.

He has established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the top-flight. He was previously outstanding on loan with Sheffield United.

It would appear that the Magpies have had no luck, however. The Athletic reports that their approach has been rebuffed.

The report notes that Manchester United do have concerns about letting players leave. They worry about how the squad could be stretched in the months ahead.

Missing out on Dean Henderson a blow, but Newcastle have bigger fish to fry

Henderson has a bright future ahead. It is hard to imagine him being happy to stick around much longer while he is an understudy.

Jose Mourinho previously labelled him ‘amazing‘. So it would have been a coup to strike a deal.

However, signing a goalkeeper is not the priority for Newcastle. Martin Dúbravka is a very decent stopper.

Newcastle face much bigger problems elsewhere. Getting a centre-back and striker in looks much more important.

Newcastle therefore, are surely unlikely to make a fresh move for Henderson. Certainly, Manchester United appear to have made it very clear that he is going nowhere.
