Newcastle United are prepared to offer Jesse Lingard a contract worth £200,000-a-week as they look to sign the 28-year-old from Manchester United, Ian McGarry has told The Transfer Window Podcast.

Lingard looks set to be on the move in one of the next two windows. He is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the campaign. And recent reports claimed that talks over fresh terms had broken down.

It was reported a few days ago that Newcastle had made Lingard their top target for next month. And it was suggested that they were prepared to make him their top earner on more than £100,000-a-week.

And journalist McGarry has now outlined just how much more the Magpies are willing to put on the table.

He has told The Transfer Window Podcast that Newcastle are ready to offer Lingard £200,000-a-week. He notes that the Magpies can justify those figures due to the lack of a significant transfer fee required.

Newcastle would be making huge statement offering Lingard £200,000-a-week

Eddie Howe’s biggest problem in January will be convincing the club’s targets to move to Tyneside. Despite winning at the weekend, Newcastle still look set to be right in the midst of the battle to avoid relegation.

Their marquee targets are likely to have reservations about moving to St James’ Park. But if they see players such as Lingard being offered £200,000-a-week, that may certainly help.

Of course, some will debate whether that is good value. Lingard turns 29 next week. But it shows what Newcastle are prepared to do to bolster their squad. And that may excite some of the names on their wishlist.
