Report: Newcastle open talks to sign Juventus player; Tottenham, Arsenal linked
Goal’s Italian website claim that Newcastle have begun talks to sign Juventus star Aaron Ramsey. In what is a somewhat ambitious approach, the Toon are keen on luring the Welshman back to the Premier League. However, Newcastle may find competition from Arsenal and Tottenham.
Ramsey, 30, has played 65 times for Juventus in two seasons at the Old Lady – since joining the club from Arsenal in 2019. But the 67-time Wales international has only scored six goals. That is, despite being used as an attacking midfielder. Juve are actively looking to get rid of Ramsey.
TuttoJuve claim the Italian side have offered him around for just £10million. Fabio Paratici is looking at Ramsey at Tottenham, while Tuttosport say Arsenal could bring him back. Now, Newcastle have opened talks to sign Ramsey – though a move is hugely ambitious.
Newcastle face numerous stumbling blocks in Ramsey pursuit
Firstly, can Newcastle afford a move to sign Ramsey? It has been widely reported that Newcastle have a small budget – as owner Mike Ashley continues at the helm. Even if they could afford him, Ramsey’s wages would surely disrupt the wage structure currently in place on Tyneside.
Another stumbling block is Newcastle failing to qualify for Europe – but then, so have Arsenal. Tottenham did, but only in the Conference League. It is a hugely ambitious move but if Newcastle can perhaps arrange a loan deal, with a permanent clause, then a move becomes more viable.
